I have long been fascinated by the concept of the forest guardians in the form of spirits or fairies. It reveals the idea of a Maori maiden clothed by nature, serenely watching over her domain.

Integrated in the picture is my love of the New Zealand native bush with warm light filtering through the trees with the crystal clear water flowing behind her.

Portrait of The Artist’s daughter who is a singer songwriter painted for her 18th birthday.

Example of the “VERMEER” style of an interior with a figure placed in a situation of working or in recreation. The critical aspect is the lighting which is nearly always from a window positioned on the side of the work.

The foundation of the painting is built up in a series of grey tones known as GRISAILLE. Colour GLAZES are then built up in succession over time to create a rich depth.
